Italians decided to abandon nuclear power after a referendum in 1987 following the Chernobyl disaster... but Mr Berlusconi forgot it and in 2008 decided to start building nuclear power stations from 2014 and to produce electricity with atomic energy by 2030 (maybe he is not afraid of a nuclear accident because in 2030 he won’t be in this world any more, maybe...).Mr Berlusconi has long advocated nuclear power saying that nowadays the nuclear power plants security level is definitely higher than at the time of Chernobyl disaster... but in March 2011 there was the second largest nuclear accident in Fukushima. Many Italians organizations have been pushing for a referendum which if approved would abrogate the 2008 law imposing a ban on nuclear power... but Berlusconi’s government in April 2011, with the moratorium incorporated into the “omnibus” decree law, decided to have a "momento di riflessione" and temporarily freeze plans to return to nuclear in order to make the referendum irrelevant. On Wednesday 1st of June Italy's top appeals court gave the go-ahead for a referendum on nuclear power despite the last government decree law so Italians will vote on June 12 and 13 in the referendum that could abrogate the moratorium incorporated into the “omnibus” decree law and ban the nuclear power in Italy... What else Berlusconi’s government can do now? Maybe a new decree law to obligate Italians to stay at home on June 12 and 13 and not go to vote??As well as nuclear power, the referendum will call for Italians to vote on water privatisation (to avoid a possibility for the private company to make a profit selling water as it was gold or coffee) and on the “legittimo impedimento” the law that allows the Prime Minister and the Ministers to refuse to appear in court because their political commitments.Nuclear, water, justice... It is really important to go to vote, no matters the preference, and if you don't have the right of vote in Italy try to convince your italian friends to do it.The referendum is to abrogate a Parliament law so the 12 and 13 of June: vote YES to say NO (and abrogate the law) vote NO to say YES (if you consider the law is right) isn’t that easy???
