This is without any doubt one of the most typical, traditional and old festivals about wine in Italy.
The
'Sagra dell'Uva' (Grape Festival) in Marino, small town near Rome. It usually takes place on the first Sunday of October each year. This festivals is about grapes and white wines made in the area, with its hills called 'Colli Albani', from the city of Albano.During the days of the festival, a legend tells that 'even the fountains pour wine. This is certainly a legend, and treated as a 'miracle', but wine-fountains are always installed in the centre of the town. The highlight is when the
fountains of the town start gushing sweet white wine which is distributed freely amongst the crowd, recalling the memory of the old vintage and the historical event of the return in Marino of Marcantonio Colonna with 260 'Marinesi' from the Battle of Lepanto. The event includes a procession, music and period costumes.
